Jobs boost for Carlow  as Government announces road upgrades – Pat Deering

Carlow Fine Gael TD,Pat Deering, has said Carlow  will get a jobs boost, and better roads, after the Government gave the go-ahead for labour intensive road upgrade works in the multi million Jobs Initiative announced this week.

“This is great news for Carlow. The Jobs Initiative will allow a number of key road repairs to be carried out, and will create jobs in the process.

“I’m very happy to confirm that €768,100 has been allocated to the projects in Carlow.

R726, Pollerton Road, €50,000.

R430, Kennedy Street, €50,000.

R448, Accomodation Road Rathnapish, €150,000.

R725, Staplestown Road, €45,570.00

L-20044-0, Rathnagrew Upper, €80,000

L-6005-32, Portrusheen Upper, €70,000

L-2011-0, Croneskagh Lower, €70,000

L-6024-0, Clonmore, €70,000

L-20075-0, Killalongford, €42,530

L-2026-0, Corrabut to Clashahillagh Bridge, €140,000

“These projects can go ahead because the Government has committed €75 million nationally to ‘shovel-ready’ transport projects to start this year. Much of the funding will be used to repair roads which were badly damaged in the last two severe winters.

“Because this is brand new funding which has been re-allocated from elsewhere in the Department of Transport, these will be brand new jobs which otherwise would not have been created.

“Each road project will also benefit communities and create further spin-off jobs. It’s a win-win situation.

“This Jobs Initiative shows that this Government means what it says when it comes to job creation.”
