Minister addresses unemployment, healthcare and environmental issues in the community

Carlow Fine Gael TD  Pat Deering, has today (Thursday) said the visit by Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, to the constituency this week was extremely productive and addressed issues such as unemployment, healthcare and agricultural matters.

During his visit, the Minister opened the Ballon Training Centre, a non profit organisation which provides training courses to help increase employment opportunities in the community. Minister Hogan also visited the Sacred Heart and District Hopsitals, where he reassured people about the future of the hospital saying that staffing levels will be improved through internships or other such schemes.

Speaking after the Minister’s visit, Deputy Pat Deering said: ‘I was delighted to welcome Minister Hogan to Carlow, where he visited the Carlow Chamber and the Carlow Town Council and also spoke at the AGM of the Carlow County Council’.

“In his address, the Minister discussed matters such as the Sugar Factory and Bio Energy reports which are due to be published in the next two weeks. This is an issue which is close to my heart as I believe it is important that we bring the sugar industry back to Ireland and to Carlow.

“The Minister also advised us that he will raise the matter of the Carlow sign on the M7/M9 with the Department of Transport and that he is confident of a speedy resolution of the matter.”
