Carlow Kilkenny TDs welcome the programme for government commitment to exploring the establishment of a multi campus technical University in the south East.

Speaking recently at the FAS Employment and Advice Fair in Carlow Mr Pat Deering TD added his support to the programme for Government recommendation saying:

“Carlow has consistently proposed a multi campus university model for the south east and I welcome the exploratory discussions between IT Carlow and Waterford IT”

In terms of the model for the University he understands that IT Carlow support a multi campus approach which ensures parity of esteem, equality and inclusiveness. He also believes that if a multi campus model is to succeed the ability for resources to be enhanced and developed at each campus needs to be secured.

Minister for the environment and local government Mr Phil Hogan also lent his support to the creation of a Technological University in the South East and welcomed the discussions between interested parties.

He supported the comments made by Deputy Deering in relation to progress in discussions and added:

“For any University proposal to succeed and have the support of all in the South East its governance and management structures must be based upon a joint ownership model which ensures equality and inclusiveness.”
