Date 11 May 2012-05-10

The board of Board na gCon have
decided at its recent board meeting to recommend a Yes vote to the
greyhound Industry in the upcoming Referendum on The Stability Treaty. The vote is recommended on the basis that a YES vote will assist the
Government in maintaining and sustaining consumer confidence in the economy.
Consumer confidence in the economy is vital to the Greyhound industry which is
dependent upon discretionary consumer spending to ensure continued strong
financial performance of our nationwide stadia which is necessary to fund
industry development.

Commenting on the
recommendation Chairman Phil Meaney went on to state “While clearly people
are entitled to vote based upon their own view, we felt as a Board that it was
appropriate to give an industry direction. Our strong view is a YES
vote will help assist the Government in securing confidence in the future.   We in the
Greyhound Industry need confidence in Ireland’s future to maintain prize
money, complete our capital investment programme, encourage breeding,
while protecting the 10,300 jobs that currently exist in the industry.”
