Upgraded Wastewater Treatment Plants for Hacketstown and Rathvilly.

3rd October, 2012

Carlow Fine Gael TD, Pat Deering, has today (Wednesday) confirmed that the long awaited Waste-water Treatment Plants for Hacketstown and Rathvilly will go ahead in 2013. In Hacketstown the proposal involves upgrading the existing plant from it’s current capacity of 600 population to a new 1,315 population equivalent. In the case of the Rathvilly plant the upgrade will increase capacity from 600 to 1400 population.

“I am pleased to announce the project is almost ready for tender and following this procedure a contractor will be appointed and work will commence in 2013. The department has recently approved Carlow County Council’s proposals for these treatment plants to address the needs of both villages. This has been talked about for a number of years and I’m delighted that we are now almost there. My colleagues Councillor Fred Hunter and Councillor Pat O’Toole and I have been pushing for these upgrades for years and when complete there will be sufficient capacity for these communities for years to come”
