Pan Celtic International Festival and Eigse Carlow Arts Festival to receive funding

Fine Gael TD for Carlow/Kilkenny, Pat Deering, has welcomed the provision of €9,000 from Fáilte Ireland for festivals to be held in Carlow in 2013. Deputy Deeering said this money, which is being supplied under the under the Regional Programme of the Festivals and Events Initiative, will go a huge way to ensuring that Carlow’s most popular public events are viable next year.

“Fáilte Ireland has made €5,000 in funding available for the

Pan Celtic International Festival in 2013 and €4,000 for the Eigse Carlow Arts Festival.  These festivals are not only enjoyed by the local population, but they also assist in bringing visitors to Carlow so that we can demonstrate exactly what the county has to offer.

“Ensuring the viability of these events is critical, not only to cementing the cultural identity of Carlow but to ensuring the social cohesion of local communities.

“I am delighted that, despite the current economic climate, Fáilte Ireland has been able to make these funds available, as part of a wider €685,000 package to support 170 regional festivals right across Ireland. Next year we will also have The Gathering, the biggest tourism event ever carried out in Ireland, which aims to bring an additional 325,000 visitors home to Ireland.

“This presents the people of Carlow with a golden opportunity to bring friends and relatives home and to showcase the county to newer visitors who may be coming to this State. I would encourage anyone who is interested in hosting an event to apply to the Gathering Local Community Fund for community and locally organised events or to the IPB Gathering Fund which will be supporting up to 3 flagship events in each county.”
