The long awaited wastewater treatment plants for Rathvilly and Hachetstown will go ahead early next year. The Department of Environment, Community and Local Government has given its final approval for both schemes and work is expected to commence shortly.

The combined cost for both units is €2.4m. The Department will put up €1.9m with Carlow County Council contributing €500,000.

Carlow Fine Gael TD and Rathvilly man Pat Deering has welcomed the approval, “these units have been promised a long time and even though the money was in the pipe line it’s a relief when the final approval is on the table. I have been pushing for this since I was elected almost two years ago and I’m delighted that work is now about to commence. I want to thank the Department and Carlow County Council for approving the finances in their 2013 budgets, to provide these necessary upgrades.”
