€14,000 National Lottery Funding for EIST.
Carlow Fine Gael TD, Pat Deering, has welcomed the recent announcement by Health Minister Dr. James Reilly TD that EIST, Carlow’s Cancer Support Group is to receive a €14,000 grant from the Department of Health’s 2012 allocation of National Lottery. EIST have been to the fore in providing care and support to cancer patients in the County Carlow and the surrounding areas since it was founded in 2004. It provides practical and emotional support for cancer patients through Reflexology, Art. Yoga Counselling and Support Groups.
In October 2012 EIST opened their new drop-in centre at The Waterfront, Mill Lane, Carlow. The centre has received the support of the whole community and cancer patients are coming to the centre and availing of its services in great numbers. The grant was awarded for the purchase of furniture and equipment to kit out the new centre.
“I am delighted with this allocation, it is great to see small local voluntary services such as EIST being looked after even in these difficult times When the Committee of Eist approached me regarding their application last year, I had no hesitation in supporting it. Every family has, in some way or another, been touched by cancer and this centre is an enormous benefit to our community” Deputy Deering said.
