People with disabilities to benefit from changes to property tax – Deering

Fine Gael TD for Carlow/Kilkenny, Pat Deering, has today (Wednesday) welcomed the announcement by the Minister for Finance, Michael Noonan TD, that homes that have had work carried out for people with disabilities will receive special exemptions for the property tax.

“Today’s announcement is very welcome. Disabled people often need to make adjustments to their properties to accommodate their needs and I am delighted that Minister Noonan has recognised this and included it in a special exemption to the property tax.

“This exemption means that any disabled person who has work carried out on their homes will have the value of that work written off when valuing their property for the property tax.

“This move will lift the burden many people were facing with the prospect of having to pay a higher property tax than their neighbour. I would like to thank Minister Noonan for his hard work in bringing this to fruition.”
