Carlow Fine Gael TD, Pat Deering, has welcomed todays (Monday 4th March) announcement by the Minister for Environment, Community and Local Government Phil Hogan TD, that he has given sanction for Carlow County Development Partnership Ltd. to approve funding of €298,000 to Tullow & South Leinster Tennis and Sports club for construction of a multifunctional sports hall, indoor children’s play area, meeting rooms and kitchen facilities under the basic services for the economy and rural population measure of the Rural Development Programme 2007-2013.

“This project will be of enormous benefit to Tullow and the surrounding areas. The estimated project cost is €406,700 and this will be a great facility to improve the quality of life for the community. I am delighted with this funding and is further evidence of this Governments commitment to community development”

The LEADER elements of the Programme offer many challenges and opportunities in terms of addressing the needs of improving the quality of life in rural areas and providing greater opportunities for farm diversification. It is focused on the development of micro-enterprises, rural services, rural recreation and rural tourism. It is hoped that, by focusing on these services, the Programme will lead to sustainable development, which in turn will ensure prosperity for the rural areas.

In accordance with EU legislation the project will now go back to the Board of Carlow County Development Partnership Ltd for the final approval.
