29th November, 2013

Carlow Fine Gael TD Pat Deering has this morning announced that work to the much needed extension at Tullow Community School will begin in 2014.

Deputy Deering said “It has been expected for two years now that the extension would go ahead but it’s only when you the get the final approval from the department that you know for certain.

“Student numbers in Tullow Community School are expected to increase by anything up to 75% over the coming years. There has been talk of a proposed extension for a while but I am glad to confirm that the Minister for Education & Skills Ruairi Quinn TD has confirmed that construction work will commence shortly. School principal Paul Thornton is excited about the development and is looking forward to this extensive refurbishment and extension. When completed the school will be catering for 1000 or more secondary school children.

This announcement is part of a €470m spend on 70 major projects in primary and post primary schools and will support almost 4,000 direct and indirect jobs.
