€40M announced for 2014 new round of Sports Capital Programme

Carlow Fine Gael TD, Pat Deering, is encouraging all Carlow sports clubs and organisations to apply for the new €40 million fund for important sports capital projects that has just been announced by the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport.

The Sports Capital Programme is the main form of funding from Central Government for developing sports facilities and purchasing sports equipment for sports clubs and organisations across Ireland. This is this Government’s second round of funding after Co Carlow clubs were awarded €372k in the first round in 2012..

“This provides much needed capital funding for clubs involved in all sport throughout the county. The Department had a record number of applications for the last programme in 2012.

I am delighted that there is a total of €40 million available this year, an increase of over 50% on last time. Funding will be used for all sorts of activity including draining pitches, installing floodlights, improving sports halls and dressing rooms etc.

The terms and conditions of the programme have been finalised and it will open for applications on 17th January 2014.  Applications for the 2014 programme will only be accepted online, and organisations must be registered in order to apply.

♦ Closed for registration at 5pm on Friday 7th February;

♦ Closed for applications at 5pm on Friday 28th February.
