2nd April, 2014

Carlow Fine Gael TD, Pat Deering, has today (Wednesday) urged Carlow social entrepreneurs to apply for funding under a new €600,000 support programme being launched by Social Entrepreneurs Ireland (SEI).

“As part of its annual competition, which is now in its tenth year, SEI is providing €600,000 in funding for social entrepreneurs around the country. Carlow not only has a strong reputation as an entrepreneurial base, Carlow people are also known for their innovative approach to solving problems.

“SEI helps people who are developing new solutions to society’s problems by providing them with funding and support so they can make their idea a reality and impact on as many people as possible as quickly as possible.

“Over the last 10 years, SEI has backed 169 social entrepreneurs and invested €5.4 million to fund  projects in areas ranging from community and active citizenship, education and learning, environment and sustainability and mental and physical health.

“This year it will provide €420,000 in funding to nine social entrepreneurs and a further €180,000 worth of support will also be made available to other successful applicants to help them to develop their ideas.

“I am encouraging anyone in Carlow with a great idea to make an application before the closing date of 5pm on Monday, 28th April. For full details on the Social Entrepreneurs Ireland Awards Programme, and to access the application form itself, please visit
