Twelve empty houses to be renovated in Carlow – DEERING

17th April, 2014

Measures will alleviate social housing shortage.

Carlow Fine Gael TD, Pat Deering, has welcomed the Government’s announcement of a €15 million national investment in social housing, €169,000 will be spent in Carlow, this measure will make twelve vacant houses available for use again.

“There is a housing shortage across the country. Families in Carlow are in need of homes. This significant investment will make a huge difference to people in the area.

“Empty houses regularly attract anti-social behaviour; they are unsightly and negatively impact local areas. We want to bring new life into these properties and to turn them into homes once again.

“This investment will not only benefit the individual families who are allocated a new property but it will enhance the community. It is good news for builders and good news for small businesses.

“This €15 million national investment is just one of a number of measures being introduced by the Government to deal with public housing issues. €68 million will be invested nationally to build 449 new homes for families and €30 million will be spent in 2014 to upgrade the energy efficiency of the least well insulated local authority homes.”
