€3m Public Area Enhancement Scheme announced today
Carlow Fine Gael TD, Pat Deering, has welcomed the announcement of €70,000 in funding for Carlow County Council to support community groups such as the TidyTowns groups to enhance their areas. The funding comes as part of a €3 million Public Area Enhancement Scheme announced by Minister for Environment, Community and Local Government, Phil Hogan TD.
“Today’s announcement of a €3 million Public Area Enhancement Scheme is really welcome and is a strong signal of confidence in this country by our Government. After restoring stability and growth to this country, it is time to put our best foot forward again. When visitors come here we want them see a wel maintained towns and villages that we can be proud of.
“€70,000 in funding has been allocated for Carlow County Council to carry out local area enhancement work. The funding can be used for the clean-up of parks and recreational areas or even the cleaning up and making safe of derelict buildings.
“Community groups such as those involved in the TidyTowns competition, are set to benefit from this funding. These volunteer groups conduct work on all our behalf. Living in clean and tidy communities greatly improves our quality of life.
“The work of these groups is also crucial to the tourism potential of this country, as it ensures our towns and villages look their best for visitors. I am really pleased to see this extra funding being granted to Carlow County Council as we enter the busy summer tourist season. We want tourists to leave Ireland with a really good impression of clean, well-maintained towns and villages, that they would recommend to their friends and family as great places to visit”.
