Dublin/ Tullow bus route rescued – Deering

20th March, 2015

“The Dublin- Tullow bus route has been rescued,” says Fine Gael TD for Carlow/Kilkenny. Deputy Deering was speaking after the publication of the ‘Review of the Withdrawal of Bus Éireann’s Licenced Route 5 Expressway Service’ by the National Transport Authority (NTA) today (Tuesday) which confirms the future of services on this route is secure.
“Last week I brought representatives from a number of villages along Route 5 to meet with Minister Donohoe. They raised with the Minister how crucial this bus route is to places like Baltinglass, Rathvilly, Tullow, Kildavin and Bunclody. The route is a vital link for the people of Carlow, travelling as it does between Dublin and Rosslare via Tallaght.
“At the meeting I appealed to the Minister to do everything in his power to halt the planned closure of the route. Minister Donohue is a man of his word and after he assured me of his commitment to finding a solution, I knew the future looked good for Route 5. I am grateful to him for allowing sense to prevail on this matter and allowing for the continuation of a vital transport link for Carlow, with new & configured services to replace Expressway Route Number 5.
“Spreading the economic recovery to rural Ireland is currently a major focus for the Government and good transport links are crucial to this. I am delighted that Carlow has not been abandoned.”
