€600,000 in support on offer to social enterprises in Carlow-Kilkenny

13th April, 2015

Deadline approaches for Social Entrepreneurs Ireland fund –

With the deadline fast approaching, Social Entrepreneurs Ireland are reminding the public of their annual all-island search for people with innovative ideas and new solutions to some of Ireland’s biggest social and environmental problems. As part of the reminder Social Entrepreneurs Ireland has called on Carlow and Kilkenny based social enterprises to apply to their 2015 Awards Programme.

To date, Social Entrepreneurs Ireland has supported 179 social entrepreneurs across Ireland, investing more than €5.8 million in their projects. These investments have been made in areas ranging from community and active citizenship, education and learning, environment, employment, as well as mental and physical health.

This year they’re providing €600,000 in funding and support to nine social entrepreneurs and their high potential social enterprise start-ups. In addition, successful applicants will be provided with access to professional supports, mentoring and training.

Speaking about their 2015 Awards Programme, Chief Executive of Social Entrepreneurs Ireland Darren Ryan said: “While Ireland’s economic recovery might be gaining speed, we’re still in danger of leaving large portions of our population behind. Whether it’s long-term unemployment, homelessness or poverty, social entrepreneurs offer great new solutions to ensure that we can deliver an inclusive recovery, and this Awards Programme provides them with the vital support they need to succeed.”

Dublin headquartered international company DCC plc, who has sponsored the Awards for the last five years, are continuing with their sponsorship again this year. CEO of DCC Tommy Breen said: “We in DCC are proud to continue our support of the Social Entrepreneurs Ireland Awards. It is a great privilege to play a role in supporting some of the brightest and most ambitious entrepreneurs working to have a positive impact on our society.

The deadline for applications is Monday 20th April. Full details on the application process, eligibility criteria and an overview of the Awards Programme can be found online at
