Deering commends St Luke’s Emergency Department for efficiency

26th June, 2015

Fine Gael Carlow/ Kilkenny TD, Pat Deering, has congratulated staff and management at St Luke’s Hospital Kilkenny for their excellent turnaround time for patients in their Emergency Department.

“The people of Carlow and Killkenny are well served by St Luke’s Hospital and can rest assured that the Emergency Department is operating with great efficiency.

“This week I was in communication with the Minister for Health, Leo Varadkar, in relation to the hospital. I learned that 88% of the patients who went to the Emergency Department in St Luke’s were seen and either admitted or discharged within six hours.

“This is an excellent result for the hospital and I want to commend management and staff, especially those working in the Emergency Department.

“While not everything is perfect in our health service we are making good progress. As well as having a great hospital here we are strengthening the primary care system across Carlow and Kilkenny. This is the future of healthcare in this country. Minister Varadkar has now ensured that from this summer almost 300,000 children will be able to see their GP without paying fees, for the first time. And from August, everyone over the age of 70 will also be eligible for a GP visit card. This is the first step towards universal health care in Ireland. For more information go to
