Opportunities for Carlow farmers with opening of new beef markets – Deering

22nd October, 2015

Fine Gael TD for Carlow/Kilkenny, Pat Deering, has said that there will be new opportunities for farmers in Carlow and Kilkenny with the opening of two new beef markets in Canada and Oman.

“New opportunities now present themselves for farmers in Carlow and Kilkenny with the opening of two new beef markets in Canada and Oman.

“The Oman market will also now be fully open to Irish sheepmeat, which is already the case in Canada.

“This announcement is another great step forward for Irish beef following our entry to the US beef market earlier this year and I commend Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney for his work in expanding the reach of Irish beef to new markets. This is a key element of our Food Harvest 2020 strategy to expand the overseas opportunity for Irish beef.

“The Minister has confirmed that he will continue to work closely with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Bord Bia, the European Commission and industry in terms of identifying and securing new Third Country markets for Irish meat.

“Ireland has an excellent product to offer and we must continue to explore the opportunities in new markets where there is a demand for premium grass-fed beef and sheepmeat.”
