Funding of €17k for Carlow Festivals- DEERING

Carlow Fine Gael TD, Pat Deering, has said that funding of €17k announced today for Carlow Festivals will provide a great boost to the area.

“Funding of €17,000 announced today by the Minister of State for Tourism & Sport, Michael Ring will provide a great boost to the area and will come as very welcome news to all of those involved.

“Festivals in Carlow to receive funding include: Carlow Arts Festival €5,000, Carlow Garden Festival €2,500, Borris House Festival of writing €2,500 and Pan Celtic International Festival €7,000.

“Many volunteers have been involved in the successful running of festivals in Carlow. These festivals bring many visitors to the area and additional business to the local economy.

“This funding allocated by Fáilte Ireland, under its 2016 Festivals and Events Programme will allow organisers to progress their plans for next year’s festival.

“Nationally this is an investment of over €1 million; €325,000 for the second phase of funding of large national festivals and almost €695,000 for smaller regional events.

“Festivals and events are the life-blood of tourism and are important in terms of generating employment. They encourage many visitors to come to Ireland and to Carlow.”
