Boost of €600,000 for farmers in Carlow with final instalment of BPS payments – DEERING

Fine Gael TD for Carlow Pat Deering, has welcomed the news that farmers in Carlow are to get almost €600,000, in final instalments of BPS payments, which begin this week.

“The Minister for Agriculture, Michael Creed, has confirmed that, following the recent definitive allocation of entitlements by his Department, the final instalment of payments under the 2015 Basic Payment Scheme (BPS) and Greening for farmers in Carlow begin this week.

“Farmers in Carlow are to get a total of €596,169.22.

“The rollout brings the total amount paid under the Basic Payment Scheme to €1.2 billion and over 126,000 farmers across Ireland have received payment to date.

“Taken together with payments under the Areas of Natural Constraints Scheme, this represents a total of over €1.4 billion in direct payments to farmers since last September.

“This is a significant financial boost for farmers in Carlow. It’s also very good news for the rural economy in Carlow and will have a positive knock-on effect on many local businesses.

“Investing in our rural economies and supporting communities across rural Ireland is a top priority for this Government. Fine Gael’s ambition, and my ambition as a Fine Gael TD, is to build a strong economy and deliver a fair society, so that communities across Carlow can thrive.”
