New Govt funding for redevelopment of The Laurels Local Authority housing- Deering

20th January, 2017

Fine Gael Carlow Kilkenny TD, Pat Deering, has announced that The Laurels Local Authority Housing in Carlow Town is to be redeveloped thanks to new funding released under the Government’s Local Authority Housing Capital Programme.

“I have received confirmation from my Fine Gael colleague, the Minister for Housing, Simon Coveney, that The Laurels in Carlow Town is to be redeveloped and refurbished. This is thanks to the release of €427,976 in funding under the Government’s Local Authority Housing Capital Programme.

“I have been calling for the redevelopment of The Laurels since five properties there were set on fire and destroyed. With people and families on housing waiting lists, we cannot have Local Authority properties lying empty. It is great that this development will now be refurbished and I know the work will carried out to the highest standard.

“Carlow County Council has been very proactive on the social housing front with a number of new build schemes being progressed this year as part of Minister Coveney’s Action Plan for Housing. By the end of 2017, in excess of 120 Local Authority new builds will be completed which is really good news for Carlow people waiting to be housed.”
