Carlow Fine Gael TD., Pat Deering, has welcomed todays announcement by the Minister for Rural and Community Development, Mr. Michael Ring TD, that over €443k LEADER funding has been approved for three Carlow projects.

Three Carlow projects, Leighlinbridge Parish Sports Grounds €150.000, St Laurence O’Toole’s Athletic Club €173.431 and Hacketstown Community Sports Hall €119.820, have now been formally approved for funding.

LEADER funding is vital for rural communities right across the country. LEADER Programme is open for business and ready to support rural Ireland. The minister has pledged that he will ensure that LEADER is a success in every county and for all rural areas.

Minister Ring stated: “I am pleased to see that significant progress is being made and I am optimistic that the trend of increased project approvals will continue right across the country in the coming months. In addition to the work underway in each of the LEADER Local Action Groups, my Department is making a substantial number of changes to LEADER to make the Programme more user friendly and to streamline the process for both project applicants and the LEADER Local Action Groups. The benefit of these changes is already evident and my Department will continue to introduce the necessary changes to the programme in consultation with the Local Action Groups and their partners.”

Minister Ring added: “While the amount of LEADER funding will, of course, vary depending on the type of project being supported, it is very positive to see that larger-scale LEADER projects are also beginning to come on stream. Every project, regardless of its size, can make a difference to rural communities. Nonetheless, it is encouraging to see the larger projects also beginning to come through the system”

Other Carlow groups considering projects should contact the local LEADER office, Carlow County Development Partnership Ltd., in Bagenalstown for assistance and to see if there project would qualify for funding.
