Deering welcomes NTA funding for Passenger Footbridge at Carlow Station

1st June, 2018

Rail Commuters in Carlow are set to benefit from a new accessible passenger footbridge.

Fine Gael Carlow TD, Pat Deering, said “the funding agreed by the NTA, is a most welcome decision for Carlow commuters and rail passengers. “This is very good news here in Carlow. I know this has been a particular difficultly for users of the rail station and hopefully this announcement gives them some degree of relief and certainty as the new accessible footbridge with lifts is badly needed.”

Deputy Deering added “the new accessible passenger footbridge with stairs and lifts between the existing railway platforms at Carlow rail station is being funded by the NTA under the Accessibility Programme. Iarnrod Eireann received planning permission for the project last October and the company is currently preparing the necessary tender documents for the construction phase. It is expected that the foot bridge will be completed by mid-2019.”
