Statement by Fine Gael TD Pat Deering on the death of former TD John Browne

27th March, 2019

Fine Gael TD Pat Deering has expressed his condolences following the death of former Fine Gael TD, John Browne.

Deputy Deering said: “It is with great sadness that I learned this morning of the death of former Fine Gael TD John Browne, who has passed away after a long illness.

“John was my immediate predecessor in Dáil Éireann and had a long and distinguished political career.

“Originally a Clare man, he was first elected to Carlow County Council in 1979. He was then nominated to the Seanad in 1983.

“John was then elected to Dáil Éireann in 1989 and retired in 2002. He recently came to Dublin for the Dáil 100 celebrations in the Mansion House in January.

“John has always been heavily involved in the community, especially in GAA activities, and once retired he really re-immersed himself in these interests and became chair of the county juvenile committee.

“My deepest sympathies go to his wife Nancy, his son, daughters, relatives and many friends.

“An exemplary and committed politician, he will be sorely missed by the local community.”
