14 More Boarded-up houses in Carlow approved for return to use.

8th July, 2014

Carlow Fine Gael TD., Pat Deering, has welcomed todays announcement by Government that €173,000 has been allocated to refurbish 14 boarded up houses in Carlow. This is part of a €15m investment to return over 1,000 houses to everyday use.

“This is welcome news for Carlow, earlier this year a similar scheme included €169,000 for work to 12 houses. This brings the number of houses to be refurbished and made available for family use to 26 at a cost of €342,000.

“Nationally, over €30m is been spent on 2,000 much needed homes. This is good news for 2,000 families who in some cases desperately need to be housed and is further evidence that this Government is serious about dealing with the emerging housing crisis. Of course I acknowledge this is only another small step and much more needs to be done, but it does mean taht 2,000 more families will have a roof over their head next winter, a home they can call their own.

“Its also a welcome boost for construction workers as most of this work will be carried out by small contractors.
