Murnane O’Connor Disingenuous over Roads Allocation – DEERING.

22nd February, 2016

Carlow Fine Gael TD., Pat Deering, has accused Fianna Fáil Candidate Jennifer Murnane O’Connor of been disingenuous with Carlow voters over her press release regarding Carlow roads allocations.

“Councillor Murnane O’Connor issued a press release last week which is factually incorrect. I believe Ms O’Connor deliberately put this information in to the public domain knowing it to be incorrect. She mentions a figure of €248,118 as the Carlow allocation for road improvements; this is an incorrect and misleading figure. Carlow’s allocation for road improvement and maintenance for 2016 is €3,656,226.

“The figure of €248,118 is what was allocated by Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) for the maintenance of National Primary Routes. We only have two National Roads in Carlow, the N80 Carlow to Bunclody and N81 from Closh Cross through Tullow and Rathvilly. The M9 Motorway is maintained by a contractor for the TII.

“€3.6m is the figure for our own local ‘R’ and ‘L’ roads, €600k or 20% increase on last year, Councillor Murnane O’Connor knows the difference and if she doesn’t she should.
