12th May, 2017

Fine Gael TD for Carlow, Pat Deering TD welcomed the news that an additional €150,000 in funding has been secured for Carlow County Council.

Deputy Deering said, following on from meetings last summer with both Ministers and representatives from a project team which comprised of a partnership between Carlow County Council and County Carlow Chamber, I am delighted to announce that this additional funding allocation for Carlow County Council has been signed off by Minister for Housing, Planning & Local Government, Simon Coveney,

Deering said “The funding agreed this week is great news for Carlow and will bring tangible benefits to people and help revitalise Carlow. The funds have been allocated from the Department Housing, Planning & Local government and will be administered by the Local Authority.”

Deering stated “The project has been developed by a team which comprised of a partnership between Carlow County Council and County Carlow Chamber, who have collaborated with a view to developing a strategic roadmap for the development of Carlow Town, whilst also carrying out shorter term public and business engagement works and projects.

Carlow Town has wonderful educational, sporting and recreational facilities. As a complement to these attributes, this allocation will facilitate projects which aim to boost the physical presentation of the Town Centre. In order to increase the attractiveness of the Town Centre, it is important that all the relevant stakeholders continue to work in partnership to further enhance Carlow Town as a living town, which is an attractive place in which to live, work and play for current and future generations.

Deering concluded “Fine Gael in Government is using the resources created by our strong economy to deliver real benefits to people and communities all across the country with targeted actions that will help to deliver these benefits to people here in Carlow.
